Modi to head committee for Nehru’s birth anniversary celebration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday reconstituted the committee to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and named himself as its chairman

Modi will himself chair the committee, said a statement from the prime minister’s office.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Culture Minister Shripad Yesso Naik have been appointed as ex-offico members of the committee.

The statement further said that the first meeting of the committee will take place soon after the Diwali festival on Oct 23.
