Modi govt. tells a lie every week: Arun Shourie

New Delhi: Former Bharatiya Janata Party minister Arun Shourie has termed the Rafale deal as the “biggest defence scam ever”. Responding to the Former French president, Francois Hollande’s claim that it was the Indian government which suggested Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence as the Rafale jet maker Dassault’s offset partner, Arun Shourie said that it nails yet another lie of this government. He claimed that Modi government is telling one lie after another.

Arun Shourie said Modi government says a new lie every week which punctures the very next day. He said despite all its strategies on Rafale deal, Modi government is getting entangled in its own lies.

Hailing Mohan Bhagwat’s comments, Arun asked Mohan Bhagwat to tell Modi to say the truth. Because Rafale deal and Ambani issue is related to the country’s security. Is it our tradition to tell lies so many times? he asked.

In an interview to the scroll Arun Shourie on the role of media said, “I will tell you. The next step is for the media. Forget the damned governments, the media should persevere. Our job is not to be grasshoppers but crocodiles. When you get someone’s leg, never leave it. This government is caught. Instead of parroting the nonsense and lies, the media should excavate the facts on its own. It should collaborate with journalists in France. The government is not able to explain the drop from 126 planes to 36 planes. Then they said they are working on a deal for 110 planes. All right, then you expedite it. But they are so frightened that they are not going to go ahead with that also.
