Modi Govt. dissolves IGNCA board

New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday dissolved the board of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), an autonomous institution under the Union Ministry of Culture.
The decision in this regard was taken by Minister of State for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma.

The Central Government has appointed senior journalist Ram Bahadur Rai as the next IGNCA chairman. He replaces former diplomat Chinmaya Gharekhan.

The IGNCA was launched on November 19, 1985 by the late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at a function where the symbolism of the components was clearly articulated at different levels.

The IGNCA, established in memory of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, is visualised as a centre encompassing the study and experience of all the arts — each form with its own integrity, yet within a dimension of mutual interdependence, interrelated with nature, social structure and cosmology.
