Modi government’s latest: Mission Empowerment for minorities

In order to take his development agenda to the minorities, the Narendra Modi government has launched ‘Mission Sashaktikaran’, as per reports on Wednesday.

The highlights of the scheme are economic empowerment and security for the minorities.

Earlier too the BJP-led NDA government had come up with certain schemes for the minorities like the ‘Nai Roshni’ which they rediscovered. This was the leadership-initiation programme for young Muslim women, which was a scheme of the previous UPA government but had not seen the light of the day.

This was designed to bring Muslim women to the mainstream of education and other fields which would be productive.

It may be recalled that in his campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Modi had laid emphasis on – ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ – or development for all.

In the 2014-15 budget, his government had allocated `12.50 crore for the implementation of the scheme for the leadership development of minority women, which is implemented through Non-Governmental Organizations.
