Kolkata: Describing the Central government as a “government for the corporates”, the CPI today said that the country urgently needed a change, the process for which started already.
“The BJP government at the Centre has turned out to be the government for the corporates… The Modi government has changed the definition of government,” CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said addressing a huge rally in the city to mark the CPI’s 90th foundation day celebrations.
Questioning the Prime Minister’s silence on issues like intolerance, beef ban in the country, Dadri lynching and the killing of Kannada writer M M Kalburgi, Reddy said, “Modi tweets even when there is a death of a dog in the US, but why is he silent on the burning issues like these?”
He also criticised the Modi government for its efforts to bring in FDI in the country and observed that only setting up of new industries would create new jobs which would help the country progress.
“But the time is changing and that is evident from the Bihar elections… BJP has failed in Delhi elections and now in the Bihar elections too, failing to make a mark,” Reddy said.
Talking about attacks on Left party rallies allegedly by the Trinamool Congress, Reddy said, “It was Sonar Bangla… now it’s Gunda Gardi Bangla. There have been attacks on rallies by Left parties… We need a change in the country as well as in West Bengal.”
Besides CPI frontline leaders from the state, party deputy general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta was also present at the rally to mark its foundation day.
Dasgupta asked partymen to unite to bring about a change.
“Now we have to fight for our food, for unemployment. And now the growing intolerance is added to that list… Look at Bihar, they have succeeded in bringing in the change… I believe in mass unity and we need to work on that to bring in the change in West Bengal and in the country as well,” Dasgupta felt.
