Modi demands ban on cow slaughter across India

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today sought the country-wide protection of cow progeny and demanded a ban on its slaughter. Speaking at a function here on the eve of ‘Mahavir Janma Jayanti’, organised by Mahavir Janmotsav Samittee, he said Gujarat had enacted a law for the protection of cow progeny and similar protection be guranteed to cow progeny across the country and called for a ban on its slaughter.

He said the law prohibited cow slaughter in Gujarat and sale of beef since October last. He also said during last one decade, the production of milk had increased by about 60 per cent due to the policy of state government. He rued that the Congress in Gujarat was trying to defame the government by alleging that the grassland had been given to the industrialists to establish companies. He critisised the central government for not enacting the cow protection law until now. UNI
