New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the death of former UN Secretary General and Nobel laureate Kofi Annan and called him a conscience keeper of international peace and security.
Modi also said Annan’s “significant contribution” to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will always be remembered.
“We express our profound sorrow at the passing away of Nobel Laureate and former UNSG Kofi Annan. The world has lost not only a great African diplomat and humanitarian but also a conscience keeper of international peace and security,” Modi tweeted.
“My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in peace.”
Annan, 80, died on Saturday in Switzerland after a short illness, with his wife and three children by his side.
