Chief Minister Narendra Modi today announced the formation of three new talukas in north Gujarat. Addressing a public rally here during his Swami Vivekanand Yuva Convention, Mr Modi said that the new talukas have been carved out for administrative ease.
According to the announcement, a Saraswati taluka would be carved out Patan taluka. Shankheshwar will be carved out from existing Sami taluka and Suigam taluka will be carved out from Vav taluka. All the three new talukas will officially come into existence on January 26, 2013. Mr Modi also announced a Rs 2,000 crore development package for Patan. He also launched a new medical college in Dharpur in Patan taluka. The college, the first medical college to come up in north Gujarat, has been named Sarswati Medical College. He said that in Saurashtra there are many medical colleges, but there was no medical college in north Gujarat. This shows what the past governments did nothing for north Gujarat. ‘I dream of setting up at least one medical college in each district of Gujarat including the tribal areas,’ Mr Modi said. He said that a Special Investment Region (SIR) will come up in Santalpur-Radhanpur area, which will accelerate the industrial development of the area. UNI
