Prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Narendra Modi on Friday accused the ruling Congress government in Rajasthan of snatching lands belonging to the poor and deprived.
Addressing a BJP rally in Pokhran, Modi said there was no one in the (Congress) party from whom justice could be demanded since the party was full of thieves.
“I want to ask the people of Jaisalmer, who has seized lakhs of acres of your land? Who took acres and acres of your land? And they (Sonia Gandhi) preach to the world. When the thief is at home, to whom do we complain to?” thundered Modi.
Modi also criticised the Congress for not producing files related to scams and declaring them as lost.
“It is a fashion for them. When we ask them in Rajasthan where are the land files? They say the files are lost. And, when we ask them in Delhi about the Coal files? They say that the files are lost. Brothers and sisters, the truth is that not only the files, but the entire government is lost,” said Modi.
The Gujarat chief minister further said: “The maximum Muslim population of Gujarat is in Kutch District, and the second largest population is in Bharuch District, and both districts have become the fastest growing districts of the state.”
Modi is credited with helping Gujarat’s economy achieve average yearly growth in the double digits in the past decade and he is popular among many wealthy businessmen.
Modi is now using state elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Mizoram to build a presence among voters unfamiliar with his promises of efficient governance and probity.
Indian media is presenting the 2014 election as a face-off between Rahul Gandhi and Modi.
Elections in Rajasthan will be held on December 1. (ANI)
