‘Modi, 62 others can be interrogated till Dec 31’

Ahmedabad, July 30: The Supreme Court in a directive on Thursday said that Special Investigation Team can interrogate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi till December 31st.

The SIT, which has been constituted by the apex court, is probing the cases surrounding the Gujarat riots which happened while the BJP-led Modi government was in power.

SC had directed the SIT to examine the complaint by Zakia Jaffery –widow of ex-MP Ehsaan Jaffrey and submit report in three months. The former Rajya Sabha MP was burnt alive in the communal riots of 2002.

The three-month deadline expired on July 27 and sources said that none of the persons named in Zakia’s complaint has been interrogated by the SIT.

The Gujarat High Court had on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the SIT probe against Modi and 62 others in a post-Godhra riots case.

Justice D H Vaghela dismissed the petition filed by former BJP MLA Kalu Malivad (one of the 62) stating that no relief could be granted in the case as the SIT was directly working under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Former Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela on Sunday had demanded that Narco Analysis test be conducted on the Chief Minister in connection with the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
