Dubai, September 10: Modesty is the key to happiness and a better life, according to eminent scholar Sheikh Sulaiman Al Jubailan. Al Jubailan, in his lecture ‘Make your Life better’ he delivered on Tuesday at the 8th Ramadan Forum, said that lives of Muslims would be much better when being modest and humble.
“Nowadays, people have modern means of transportation and many facilities. However, they are not happy. True happiness is when man is closer to God Almighty and has true faith in Him,” he said.
Al Jubailan added that modesty means freedom from vanity. Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) said, ‘Every religion has a character and the character of Islam is Modesty’.
“It is decency and moderation in speech, manner, dress and total attitude and behaviour towards life. It is shyness, simplicity and humility about our abilities and accomplishments,” Al Jubailan said.
Al Jubailan then narrated some of Prophet Mohammed’s sayings, “Modesty brings nothing but good. Modesty is part of Faith and Faith is in Paradise. But obscenity is part of hardness of the heart and hardness of the heart is in hell.”
“Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) also said, ‘Modesty and Faith are companions; when one of them goes out, the other follows it’.” Al Jubailan then called on Muslims to benefit from the holy month of Ramadan by obeying God’s teachings.
“We should train ourselves in positive habits and discard immorality. If each Muslim trains himself to obey God and good behaviour during this month, then it will be a regular habit afterwards,” he said.
The lecture was attended by Shaikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Khalid Al Nahyan and Khalid bin Sulayem, Director General of Dubai Department for Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and a number of Shaikhs and officials in federal and local departments.
