Mock drill conducted at Kochi airport

Kochi, October 22: A full-scale mock drill, aimed at assessing the preparedness of various agencies in tackling emergencies, was today conducted at Kochi international airport.

The agencies were alerted when a flight caught “fire” while moving to the taxiway prior to take off with 35 passengers and crew this afternoon. Rescue personnel evacuated those on board after fire service personnel extinguished the blaze, airport sources said.

The exercise was held under the supervision of the Airport Director. Air traffic control, ground and flight safety, operations and engineering staff, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) took part in the drill.

Agencies like the police and nearby hospitals were also involved.

Airport Director A C K Nair expressed satisfaction over the entire exercise and said the agencies had completed the operation within the allowed response time.
