Srinagar: Government is using new tactics to curtail the freedom of press in Kashmir. In July, Govt. banned newspapers for 5 days now, on 13th August, limited broadband connectivity in Kashmir was further squeezed to virtually blocking the news flow from Kashmir.
According to the news published in Risingkashmir, internet connectivity to major newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir was blocked by issuing a directive to a private service provider to shut its operations.
It is reported that a group of Editors met the Director Information on 16th August to get the connections unblocked. They were said that connection will be restored by evening but the police objected to restore and refused to implement the orders.
Except BSNL post paid phones, all private mobile services including the data are barred, broadband services have been withdrawn, report stated.
