Mobile biodiversity festival from Jan. 14

Hyderabad, January 13: The Deccan Development Society director, Mr P V Satheesh, has stated that the 12th Mobile Biodiversity Festival celebrations will be flagged off on January 14 from Basantnagar village under Nyalkal mandal and will culminate at DDS’s Green School, Machnoor on January 28.

In a pressnote here today, Mr Satheesh stated that the festival which encompasses environmental spirituality is marked by a set of specially designed bullock carts carrying seeds of local crops which go to Jharasangam, Nyalkal, Raikode and Zaheerabad mandal headquarters, along with folk singers, dancers and other local performers. In every mandal it passes, public meetings will be held to discuss the importance of biodiversity and local seed varieties, he added.

This year, they are simultaneously organizing a series of round tables on major issues concerning millets and public policies as follows:

On January 18, round table on “Millets – Health and Nutrition and Promotional policies” will be held at National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad. On January 24, round table on “Millets and Public Food Systems” will be held at Sangareddy, headquarters of Medak district. On January 26, another round table on “Millets: A solution for Farming and Climate Crisis” will be held at DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Medak district. On January 27, round table on “Millets: Building a Public Consciousness” will be held at the DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Medak district and on January 29, round table on “Millets and Community Markets” will be held at DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

He further stated that the festival will be marked by the presence of a galore of district officials and organic farmers.
