Mob set ablaze a truck near Jammu for alleged cattle smuggling

Jammu: In the recent attack on a truck driver Zahid Rasool Bhat in Udhampur on October 9, and death of Akhlaq by alleged Hindu mob, yet in another case, a truck has been burnt on the outskirts of Jammu.

The mob allegedly burnt the truck ear the Ban Toll Plaza in Nagrota area which falls on the outskirts of Jammu on the suspicion that it was transporting cattle to the Kashmir Valley.

According to the police they had tried to stop the truck but the driver and his helper managed to escape under cover of darkness and left the truck behind.

Police chased the truck and rescued eight of the 10 bovine animals though two died of injuries.

As the police were shifting the animals to a safer place, some people gathered at the spot and set the truck afire, the official said.

“A case of bovine smuggling has been registered against the truck driver and against a number of people for torching the truck”, said police office.
