MNS blames elected representatives for increase of slums

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) today blamed people’s representatives and vested interests for increasing slums in the commercial capital of the country. Talking to mediapersons after meeting Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte at BMC headquarters here, party chief Raj Thackeray said that people’s representatives were mainly responsible for mushrooming of slums in their areas due to vote bank politics. He further said ‘slums in the city do not rise on their own, but they are deliberately increased.’ To control the unprecedented growth of slums in the city, every political party bosses should take appropriate action against the corporator or member of legislative assembly concerned for allowing to build a hut in their areas.

Raj said that even the administration machinery including police, had failed to take effective action against the employees who failed to discharge their duty in their jurisdiction against slums, he added.

Expressing concern towards the shortage of BMC-run hospitals in the city, the MNS chief said most of the beds in these hospitals were occupied by the outsiders.
