‘MLAs in Jagan camp are in touch with me’

Hyderabad, February 09: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas has claimed that a majority of his party MLAs who were extending support to former Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy and taking part in his programmes, have been in touch with him and frequently talking to him over the phone. “I am very confident that all MLAs will stand by the Congress whenever it asks them to do so,” he said.

Speaking to newspersons at Gandhi Bhavan here today, the APCC chief, answering a query, said a typical situation was prevailing in the state.

“Cracks have come in the (Congress) family after the death of an important leader (referring to former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy) and his son’s (Jagan) decision to float another party.

Some members would be under obligations. Ultimately, they (MLAs supporting Jagan) would stand by the Congress once a line is drawn.

“I do not say whether he (Jagan) is weak or strong.

These all are emotional issues.

Those who have criticised the party leadership will face action at the right time. I cannot tell the date and time. The Congress party is sitting pretty in the state.

Nothing adverse will happen to it,” Srinivas said.

The legislative council polls would be held in March.

The party aspirants would start applying for tickets after the Assembly Budget session begins on February 17.

The Congress high command would select the party nominees, he said.
