MLAs from Andhra Region resigned on their own: Reddy

Hyderabad, December 27: Former Andhra Pradesh Minister and prominent Congress Leader from Rayalaseema Region J C Diwakar Reddy today refuted the charges levelled by some of his colleagues from the region that the Legislators belonging to Andhra Region resigned on the instigation of Chief Minister K Rosaiah.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the Legislators resigned on their own as they were against the proposed bifurcation of the state by the Centre.

He said he was the leader from Rayalaseema Region who voiced for ‘united Andhra’ for several years and would not act on the dictats or advice of any other leader.

Recalling how he had deferred with Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on several issues, he asked what would happen to Hyderabad if the state was divided into two parts as Hyderabad was developed with the investments poured in from all the three regions of the state.

Mr Reddy said the development would be severely hampered if small states were created and it would also pose a threat to the unity and integrity of the country.

The people of Andhra and Rayalaseema Regions were totally against the bifucrcation of the state and the Legislators gave up their posts as per the aspirations of these regions, he claimed.

”We are not children to act or take decisions on the advice of others,” he remarked and asked the all the leaders to maintain restrain to settle the Telangana issue after thorough discussions with all stake holders.
