MK Narayanan gets West Bengal, Shivraj Patil new Guv of Punjab

New Delhi, January 16: National Security Advisor MK Narayanan and former home minister Shivraj Patil have been appointed as West Bengal and Punjab Governor respectively, highly placed sources said.

On Friday, the government finalised name of the five new governors. The decision was taken during meeting between Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Former defence secretary Shekhar Dutt is being appointed new Governor of Chhattisgarh while E S L Narasimhan will moves to Andhra Pradesh Raj Bhavan from Chhattisgarh.

Senior congress leader Mohsina Kidwai will replace K Sankaranarayan as Jharkhand governor. K Sankaranarayan has been shifted to Maharashtra Raj Bhavan.

Former Union Minister Urmilaben Patel will be the new Himachal Pradesh Governor while present governor of Himachl Pradesh Prabha Rau will be shifted to Rajasthan.

After the appointment of MK Narayanan, the NSA post will fall vacant. For new NSA, Shyam Saran and Shiv Shankar Menon are the frontrunner, sources said.
