Hyderabad, August 30: Unsavoury scenes marred the inauguration of a housing colony constructed under JNNURM at Abdullapurmet, Rangareddy district by Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday.
Some mischievous elements raised objections over the absence of any photograph of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy at the inauguration ceremony. The protestors raised slogans ‘YSR Amar Rahe’ and criticised the government for ‘deliberately’ neglecting the former chief minister’s role in initiating the housing scheme under which the colony work was taken up.
The situation led to Health Minister and City Congress president Danam Nagender on Sunday warning the protestors to behave in a proper manner.
The protests began during the speech of Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Anam Ramanarayana Reddy.
According to sources, the protestors consisted of Youth Congress members. They were led by Hayathnagar Youth Congress president B V Das Goud. They pointed out that YSR’s name was conspicuously missing from the banner announcing the scheme.
The Ministers pacified the angry Youth Congress members and assured that that the lapse would soon be taken care of.
Later when Chief Minister K Rosaiah addressed the gathering, the Youth Congress members again raised slogans demanding that YSR’s photograph be included.
Mr Rosaiah told the Youth Congress members, “If you have any problem, you come for dialogue and solve the problem in a peaceful manner.” He said that if YSR was there to witness the ugly events, “he would not have been happy. I am not such person to forget YSR at any time. I am committed to implement all YSR schemes in letter and spirit.”
Mr Rosaiah then went ahead with his speech and left the function without any photograph of YSR being placed there.
Earlier, the residents of Abdullapurmet from whom the government had acquired the lands for construction of houses, staged a dharna seeking compensation for their lands.
Ibrahimpatnam MLA Manjireddy Kishan Reddy urged the Chief Minister to pay compensation to the land victims. Mr Rosaiah assured him that he would look into the issue.
