Hydereabad, February 10: AN 80-year-old moneylender, who went missing more than two months ago, was found to have been killed by an autorickshaw driver and the body dumped in a well at Alwal in Secunderabad.
The driver admitted to the killing, saying that he killed the moneylender as he was harassing by charging high interest rate. According to the police, the auto driver, M Ranga Raju of Anantapur district, who also works as a watchman at an apartment complex at Officer’s Colony in Ramakrishnapuram, had borrowed Rs 10,000 from D Krishna Reddy of Nava Kranti Nagar in Kapra in Secunderabad. Raju claimed that though he took the loan at 5 pc interest, Reddy started demanding 30 pc interest.
As Reddy started harassing him, Raju planned to eliminate him. On November 30 last, Ranga Raju took the moneylender to Alwal on the pretext of repaying the loan to him. He took the elderly person to an isolated place at Jammibanda in Alwal and attacked him with a stick. Then he strangled Reddy to death and dumped the body in a dilapidated well.After searching for Krishna Reddy, the family members lodged a case of missing case with the Kushaiguda police on December 27.
Checking the details of calls made by Krishna Reddy, police found that the last call was made by Ranga Raju and picked him up for questioning. Ranga Raju admitted that he had committed the crime and led the police to the well from where the moneylender’s mortal remains were retrieved.
