Missing minor girl traced with childless couple, 2 arrested

Nashik: Two persons have been arrested today for allegedly kidnapping a 4-year-old girl who went missing from Satpur area seven months ago and was later found with one of the accused and his wife here.

Nandini Sharma, went missing while playing with her sisters in front of her house in Satpur area here on May 5 following which her father, a carpenter, filed a missing complaint, Police Commissioner S Jagannathan said.

One of the accused Vijay Satpute and his wife Vidya were childless and had a strong yearning for a baby. They tried various medical treatments and also adoption but nothing worked, Jagannathan said.

This allegedly led Satpute to kidnap Nandini, with the help of a friend, to keep his wife, who would often get depressed, happy, he said.

Satpute brought Nandini home and told his wife that he has adopted her. The couple completely changed the girl’s look and admitted her to an English medium school,Jagannathan said.

The police, while investigating another criminal matter, traced Nandini to Satpute, who runs a spa in the city, he said.

Satpute and his friend have been arrested and charged with kidnapping the girl, he added.
