Miss India Anukreethy Vas aims for bias-free society for transgenders

Chennai: Miss India 2018 Anukreethy Vas aims to work towards a society free from bias against the transgender community.

Speaking to ANI she said that people in India are accepting the transgender community.

“I am working for the tolerance and acceptance in the society for the transgender. I want an abolished gender bias in India and I think that is happening now because after a lot of people are educated, they are aware of what transgender is,” she said to ANI.

“There are a lot of people in the society who are accepting them and seeing them as a person and not just a transgender, and everybody is unique in their own way so I accept them for who they are,” she added.

On a related note, Anukreethy Vas, who is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in French at Loyola College in Chennai, was crowned Miss India on June 19 by the former titleholder and Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar.

Meenakshi Chaudhary of Haryana and Shreya Rao Kamavarapu of Andhra Pradesh were crowned first and second runner-ups at the event.

Vas will represent India at the 68th edition of Miss World pageant, which is scheduled to be held in Sanya, China on December 8.
