Sheehan has relied on the undependable website called Thereligionofpeace.com to conclude that, the Qur’an contradicts it’s own teachings and appeals for merciless war. This statement made by Sheehan is based on an old prejudice and does not give any proof. Sheehan has tried to say that Islam endorses terrorism. But it is not so. Sheehan has picked out lines that are a part of long verses and has taken the wrong meaning out of them.
The scriptures of the Qur’an that make violence tolerable, also say that there are certain conditions when they can be applied. Sheehan has failed to study these verses in detail and to read them in their true context. They were incorporated into the Qur’an when the non-Muslims of Makkah were making trouble and forcing the Muslims to take violent actions.
Sheehan has misinterpreted these verses and tried to display Islam as provocative and indicative of an extremist mindset, which is actually opposite to the teachings of Islam.
