Miscreants wiped out memorial tablet from Puranapul door

Hyderabad, January 8: The Puranapul of Hyderabad has a special place among the old bridges of India and it is a memorial of Qutub Shahi architecture. This bridge was constructed to connect Hyderabad city with Golconda.

The construction of Puranapul was started in 1573 and finished in 1578. In 1820 after the Moosi river flood, the bridge was repaired during the period of Nawab Sikander Jah Bahadur for the memorial of which Maharaja Chandulal Shadan installed a tablet on its door.

Today the flow of Moosi River is next to nothing. As the river is getting dried, people belonging to a particular community are occupying various places. Puranapul is surrounded by washermen, the surrounding area of Muslim Jang pul is occupied by scrap dealers while Baror community has occupied area surrounding Chaderghat.

We mention here the big door of Puranapul. There was a time when the door was open by the two sides people used to come and go by this. Regardless of the fact that Supreme Court has clearly issued the order that no religious symbol can be kept on public places, government land, roads, highways and footpaths, people of a particular community closed the door and gave it the form of temple. Moreover the miscreants whitewashed the door in such a way that they completely wiped off the memorial tablet fixed on the door.
