The destruction of the statue of TDP founder-president late N.T. Rama Rao in Jawaharnagar locality in Alwal of Secunderabad by unidentified miscreants led to tension in the area as hundreds of TDP supporters launched a dharna.
According to reports, some unidentified miscreants allegedly poured petrol on the statue and set it afire and it was completely destroyed on Thursday night. On receipt of the information, senior TDP leaders, including Rajya Sabha member T. Devender Goud, Greater Hyderabad TDP president T. Srinivas Yadav and Mahender Reddy reached the spot and organized a protest dharna.
The TDP protestors demanded that the police immediately launch an inquiry into the incident and take stern action against the culprits. They also said that a bronze statue of NTR would be installed at the site within a week.
Both Devender Goud and Srinivasd Yadav pointed out that late NTR had striven hard to bring political and social change among the masses. Destroying the statue of such a great leader was an affront and insult to the Telugus in the State. Since TDP has been consolidating its base in the Telangana region, some persons had deliberately resorted to such a cowardly act, they observed.
TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is continuing his “Vastunna Meekosam padayatra” in Krishna and Guntur districts, expressed his shock and concern over the destruction of TDP founder-president’s statue. Strongly condemning such an heinous act, he pointed out that some miscreants were deliberately indulging in destroying the statues of eminent persons like B.R. Ambedkar, Potti Sriramulu, NTR and so on. The government should identify such miscreants and take stern action against them, he observed.
