Karachi [Pakistan]: Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has clarified his recent comment wherein he dubbed Pakistan’s 1999 side as the best team which toured Australia.
After suffering a three-match Test series whitewash against Australia, Misbah was asked whether the current side was the best team which toured Down Under.
Contradicting the same, the 42-year-old said his country’s 1999 team was the best one, a statement which drew a lot of flak, the Express Tribune reported.
Misbah, however, soon took to Twitter to explain his stand, insisting that his intentions was not to malign his seniors and nor was he trying to use it as an excuse for Pakistan’s recent defeat.
“Clarification on the 1999 tour. @MazherArshad asked me in press conf about if this was the best team for Pakistan in Australia. My reply was that 99 team was our best team. My aim wasn’t to disrespect them. I wasn’t trying to use them as an excuse. They’re our legends,” he said in a series of tweets.
The batsman further said he has utmost respect for his seniors, especially legendary bowler Wasim Akram, who led the team in 1999.
Pakistan are now slated to play five-match ODI series against Australia beginning on Friday in Brisbane.(ANI)
