Minority Welfare Day cheap publicity stunt, CM’s absence raises eyebrows

The birth anniversary of the first education minister and freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is celebrated as Minority Welfare Day and Education Day but this has become a source of cheap publicity for governments. The Minority Welfare Day held by Minority Welfare Department was nothing but a mockery of the Day. TRS government makes lofty claims of development and welfare of minorities but Chief Minister despite being in Hyderabad didn’t attend the function. When asked some high officials told that Minority Welfare Department had published cards without Chief Minister’s consent they had not requested Chief Minister to attend the programme as chief guest.

The programme began an hour late from the schedule. Film songs were played as pass time in the function held in honour of such a religious personality and national leader. Stalls were set up outside Ravindra Bharathi but names of institutions and details were written in English instead of Urdu; banners were also in English.

An elderly citizen remarked that chief Minister and Ministers had no time to attend Minority Welfare Day while ministers are running election campaign in Warangal wearing caps. The invitation cards had son many blunders of Urdu translation.
