Minority Welfare Budget spent on dry fruits

Generally private companies and institutions present gifts to VIPs on the occasion of New year or other festivals but an institution established for the welfare of minorities took other minority institutions by surprise by presenting dry fruits, sweets and bouquets to high officials on the occasion of New Year.

It is said that Managing Director Minority Finance Corporation wished the high officials of Minority Welfare Department besides those of revenue department and some former secretaries of Minority Welfare by presenting dry fruits, sweets and bouquets. Nearly 10 thousand rupees were spent on these presents and bouquets. Although New year is celebrated every year but there is no tradition of presenting gifts in government institutions.

While the MFC showed activeness in presenting gifts its inaction regarding minority welfare schemes is evident through its performance. The government had sanctioned Rs. 100 crore for bank-linked subsidy loans but corporation spent only Rs. 5.11 lakhs towards it. Similarly just 7.35 lakhs were spent on training and employment scheme out of allotted budget of Rs. 12 crore. It would have been better had the Minority Finance Corporation focused its attention towards effective utilization of budget instead of distributing gifts.
