Minority students of Engineering may be deprived of fees reimbursement

(Siasat News) “Muslims are worts than Dalthis”. These are the findings of the Sachar Committee which submitted its reprots after reviewing the status of the Muslims in all the states in the country. After the submission of this report, schemes were made for the upliftment of the Muslims, but it seems that Govt. of A.P. has no concern for the educational development of Minorities. The way the Govt. is dealing with the fees reimbursement of Engineering students, clearly indicates that it is more concerned with the other communities than Minorities.

In the announcement made by the Govt. in respect of fees reimbursement, it has not kept in mind the recommendations made by the Sachar Committee for Minorities. Govt. has declared that it will pay the entire fees for the students who secure ranks upto 10,000 in EAMCET. Govt. has announced to pay the full fees in respect of S.C. and S.T. Candidates. In the same manner, it should have taken the responsibility of payment of complete fees for Minority students, because the educational standard of the Muslims is worst than S.C.s and S.T.’s but Govt. didn’t do so. As a result of which thousands of students have an apprehension that they might lose an opportunity of getting higher professional education.

As per the statistics furnished by A.P. State Minorities Finance Corporation, nearly 40,000 Muslm students get fees reimbursement every year out of which 30,000 candidates are from Engineering stream.

After making a thorough study of the educational backwardness of the Muslims, Sachar committee recommended to give facilities to the Muslims, but the Govt. of A.P. overlooked these recommendations.

Govt. is extending these benefits to the communities which are being benefited ever since independence.

Had the Govt. announced the facility of fees reimbursement to all the poor Muslim students, they would have got the opportunity of getting admission in a good engineering college.

It seems that some of the officials in the Govt. don’t want the Muslim students to join good engineering colleges by availing of the facility of fees reimbursement.

It is understood that this step has been taken after the prosperity of some of the Muslim candidates who were enjoying the benefits of this scheme.

If the public representatives invite the attention of the Govt. towards this problem, it is possible that the Govt. may consider to extend the facility of fees reimbursement to all the eligible Muslim students. If all such Muslim candidates are brought under the purview of this scheme, it is likely that the Govt. will have to spend and additional amount of Rs. 100 to 150 crore but is only a small portion of state budget.

People’s representatives are requested to take up this matter at Govt. level and ensure that the trend of drop-outs in Engineering education does not increase.
