Minority status for schools get DPI nod

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) after about two years has again starting issuing minority certificates to eligible schools across the State.

Since 2012 the department was not granting the status because of stay by the HC on the BJP government’s definition of minority, which prescribed that 75 per cent of the students should belong to a minority community.

Recently, the Congress government revised the definition to a minimum of 25 per cent students from a minority community.

The circular asks schools who have already been declared minority institution to submit an application for renewal by the end of the current academic year.
