The minority Hindu community in Bangladesh staged a protest here on Wednesday against acts of violence and injustice inflicted on them during the general elections earlier this year.
The protest took place on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
Violence had gripped Bangladesh when the ruling Awami League decided to go ahead with the voting process on January 5 this year.
Over 200 people were killed in political violence this year, half of them since November 25 when the Election Commission announced the date for the vote.
The vice president of Global Human Rights Defence, Manik Chandra Sarker, said, “There has been no discussion in the parliament about the violence against people of Hindu community in Bangladesh. But in parliaments in London and America, the miseries of Hindus in Bangladesh have been discussed. It is very sad that in spite of being a citizen of this country, the issue of our plight has not been discussed in our parliament. This is very unfortunate.”
International Human Rights Day commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
It was adopted on December 10, 1948 by the UN General Assembly.
