Minority budget almost finalized, up by just 150 crore

Hyderabad, January 29: State government has almost finalized the budget of Minority welfare for the financial year 2012-13 and proposals are sought by the Minority welfare department in this connection.

Principal Secretary planning department S P Thakur has requested minority welfare department to submit details of budget comprising of 437 crore 18 lakh rupees and minority welfare department has sent its proposals to allocate the budget to various institutions and schemes. Thus the minority welfare budget will be of 227 crore 18 lakh rupees for the year 2012-13, upto 150 crore more than the previous year’s budget which was 290 crore.

As per the proposals sent by the planning department Rs. 220 crore have been allocated for fee reimbursement scheme, 2 crore 53 lakh for minority finance corporation for pre and post matric scholarships and maintenance of hostels and residential schools. Rs 5 lakh will be spent in Urdu academy for creating awareness regarding minority schemes. 5 lakh will be spent on the salaries of Makkah Masjid and Shahi Masjid workers and 35 lakh for their maintenance. A budget of 10 lakh rupees has been allocated for AP State waqf tribunal.

A total of 2 crore have been allocated for the centre for educational development of minorities run by Osmania University. It has been decided to allocate 1 crore for state Hajj Committee this year as against 80 lakh rupees of previous year.
