Former Minister and Chairman of AP State Congress Media Committee Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabeer congratulated Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for his proposal to formulate a sub-plan of the State budget exclusively for Minorities. He told that it is inevitable for the upliftment of Minorities.
He told the CM that in order to raise the standard of living of 12% Muslims of the State and also for the eradication of poverty among them there is an urgent need of a Sub-plan for Minorities on par with the special component sub-plan allocated for SCs and STs.
A delegation of Muslim leaders of Congress party led by Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabeer met Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, CM of AP and presented a memorandum to him yesterday. The delegation included Mr. Sultan Ahmed former MLC, Mr. S.K. Afzaluddin, former Vice Chairman of Urdu Academy, Mr. Khaja Zakiruddin, former member of State Hajj Committee and others.
They discussed in detail about the sub-plan for Minorities and invited his attention to the depressed condition of the Muslims in the State. They requested the CM to take suitable steps and welfare measures for the Muslims.
CM assured the delegation that he would collect the details from various departments and take necessary steps in this regard. Later, talking to media persons at Media Point in secretariat, Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbeer apprised the media men about the discussion he had with the CM.
He told that in the departments of Education, Health, Irrigation, Roads and Buildings, a Sub-plan could be allocated to benefit the Muslims for raising them above poverty line. In this way, a short-term plan for two years could be formulated.
He told that majority of the Muslims inhabit in urban areas but they don’t have any own house. Even if they want to take house loan from the banks, there are many difficulties. It is, therefore necessary to provide loans to Muslims at easy rates of interests. He stressed the need to start job-oriented courses in ITI’s. He advised the CM to allocate Rs. 3 to 5 thousand crore in the sub-plan for Minorities.
