Minorities part of social mainstream, says Minister

New Delhi, August 17: Dismissing the perception that minorities have been denied acceptance in social mainstream, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid today said the government wants to create a set up where they can evolve along with majority community.

Replying to a half-an-hour discussion on Multi Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) of the ministry in Rajya Sabha, Khurshid said after the Sachar Committee report came, a perception evolved that minority communities are being kept away from the social mainstream.

“This perception is not correct and the government wants to create a social order where minorities can also evolve as part of the social mainstream,” he said.

He said MSDP is a scheme for those areas where development index is less than national development index.
