Minorities neglected in higher police posts

One of the reasons of failure of police in resolving the issues pertaining to communal violence erupting in the city from time to time is the absence of Muslim police officers. Complaints have been received that right from sub-inspectors up to Asst. Commissioner of Police, candidate belonging to Minorities have been overlooked in appointments. It is encouraging the miscreants to extend their violent activities. There was a tradition in the past that in sensitive areas, officers belonging to Minority community used to be posted so that in such emergency situations of communal violence they should be able to control keeping in view their contact with the local persons.

These days, non-native police officers who don’t have any contacts with the local public are being posted in sensitive locations. Due to this, police administration is finding it difficult to maintain law and order situation under control.

Experts in police administration told that in the past, police officials of Minority Community were entrusted with the responsibilities of Task Force, Law and Order etc.

A police officer, under the condition of anonymity told that Muslim Police officials are not being given responsibilities according to their capabilities and talents. So long as
Mr. A.K. Khan was commissioner of Police of Hyderabad, he had crushed the communal forces sternly. After his transfer, there is no higher police official who could ensure law and order situation. Although, Mr. Ahsan Raza, IPS was appointed as Additional Commissioner of Police but he was given the portfolio of crimes.

Mr. Anurag Sharma, Commissioner and Mr. Amit Garg, Joint Commissioner are respobsible for maintaining law and order in the city.

If any Muslim police officer had been appointed, the complaint of partisan attitude of the police wouldn’t have occurred. There have been many complaints of police remaining silent and unilateral in actions recently. The press note issued by Commissioner of Police on the occasion of Navaratri in connection with cattle, hurt the sentiments of the Muslims. Taking advantage of this press note, miscreants tried to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the city. Inspector of police at Musheerabad who is from the Minority Community was able to control the recent communal violence in his area. If Muslim police officers like him are posted in sensitive areas, police won’t get the complaints of partiality or cruelty. Miscreants also won’t get an opportunity to implement the evil designs and conspiracies.
