Minorities Dept. likely to get Rs. 1200 crore

Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Govt. of Telangana is making an attempt to get Rs. 1200 crore budget allocation in the next financial year. Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Special Secretary of Minorities Welfare Department has sent a detailed report to Finance Minister, Mr. E. Rajender. He hoped that whatever proposals are sent by the Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Finance Minister has given an assurance that they will be accepted. In the review meeting held last week with the Finance Minister, the Dept. of Minorities Welfare had sent budget proposals for Rs. 1179 crore, 54 lakh and 35 thousand. Later, after consulting Finance Minister, certain new schemes have been included. It may be noted that Govt. of Telangana had allocated Rs. 1037 crore for this financial year but due to release of funds late, the entire amount could not be spent. The Dept. of Minorities Welfare will make an attempt to spend the entire budget during the next financial year.

Mr. Omer Jaleel told that a sum of Rs. 450 crore has been allocated for fees reimbursement of Minorities whereas Rs. 100 crore for scholarships and Rs. 120 crore for Shaadi Mubarak Scheme have been recommended. Govt. released only Rs. 20 crore for Shaadi Mubarak Scheme this year.

It is proposed to construct two residential schools in each of the 10 districts of Telangana State, one for boys and the other for girls for which a sum of Rs. 170 crore has been allocated. At present 6 residential schools are functioning. There is a proposal for the establishment of 18 news schools. Rs. 2.2 crore would be spend for each school.

Mr. Omer Jaleel also told that there is a proposal to establish a separate coaching center for Minorities to enable the students to prepare for various competitive examinations. A separate scheme would be introduced next year to ensure admissions of 200 minorities students in reputed schools for which fees will be paid by the Govt. The work pertaining to computerization of Wakf Records has been completed and it is being reviewed. After the completion of this work it will be included in Revenue Records, after which no wakf property would be unsafe. He also told that orders would be issued soon for constituting Task Force to protect Wakf properties. This force will consist of DSP of the district, Revenue Officials and officers of other departments. Task Force will meet every month to review the status of Wakf properties in each district. He informed that after the bifurcation of Wakf Board, Central Govt. will provide financial assistance to the extent of Rs. 50 lakh annually for three years. Attempts are being made to get additional funds for the utilization of central schemes. The Department of Minorities Affairs has given a positive response. Mr. Omer Jaleel also told that a new scheme will be announced soon to grant Rs. 10 lakh either as loan or grant to the students belonging to Minorities for study abroad on a par with SCs and STs Students. He also that addition of Muslim Minorities in Civil Services is his top priority. He wants to provide coaching to Muslims student in the best coaching institutes. Center for Educational Development of Minorities, Nizam College of Osmania University has selected 100 students for offering coaching in Civil Service. He assured that there is no dearth of funds. Quoting the interest of Finance Minister, Mr. Jaleel told that normally the department of finance cuts the budget proposals presented by any other department but the present Finance Minister, Mr. Rajender agreed to sanction more funds than suggested by the Dept. of Minorities Welfare. It only shows his concern for the development of Minorities.
