Minorities Commission to conduct awareness camps from Jan 15

The State Minorities Commission has decided to conduct programmes in all the districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to create awareness amongst the minorities to get benefits from the schemes of both the State Governments.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan said in its review of disbursement of budget for the minorities’ welfare, the Commission noticed that the disbursement percentage is much low than the desired as mandated under the Minorities Commission Act. Therefore, besides call for detailed reports from all the departments on disbursements, the Commission has decided to start awareness programmes, in coordination with the Collectors and Minority Welfare Officers, from January 15 onwards.

Abid Rasool Khan also informed that the Commission received a petition from the managing committee of Masjid-e-Gareeb Nagar located in Prakash Nagar of Begumpet alleging that the Housing Board officials were not allowing smooth functioning, renovation or construction of the mosque as permitted by the GHMC. While admitting the petition, the Commission served notices to the authorities concerned and directed the police, GHMC, RDO and Wakf Board officials to provide necessary assistance and protection for the Muslims and Managing Committee to perform prayers, facilitate re-construction and protect the property.

The Chairman also informed that it received and reacted on the petitions related to harassment by husband and in-laws, a murder case, cheating case and also a case alleging financial irregularities by the management of Dargah Hazrath Jahangir Peeran. (INN)
