Minorities Commission begins socio-economic survey of Imams, Muazzans

The AP State Minorities Commission has informed that it was in receipt of number of petitions from the Managing Committee of Mosques and also from Imams and Muazzans seeking intervention of the Minorities Commission in payment of salaries to them, as per the guidelines of High Court and the Supreme Court.

The Commission re-acting to such petitions and requests has discussed the issue and decided to conduct a Socio-economic and educational survey of Imams and Muazzans of all the mosques in Andhra Pradesh.

For the Survey forms have been prepared separately in all the three languages of the State, Telugu, Urdu and English and on Thursday at 4.00 pm they were released symbolically at D’ Block, Secretariat Building, Hyderabad. Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan, Former Chief Justice AP High Court Justice Bilal Nazki, Imam-e-Mecca Masjid Hafez Mohd Osman Naqshbandi, Special Secretary of Minorities Welfare Omer Jaleel, Minorities Welfare Commissioner Shaik Mohammad Iqbal and former member of Human Rights Commission Justice E Ismail were present on the occasion.

Forms have been released to the Managing Committee of Mosques, Mouzzan and Imams for filling up the same and to re-submit to the Commission.

The Commission appreciated the services rendered by Muzzan and Imams while discharging their duties and also recognizes their efforts in maintaining Secularism, peace and providing education to the needy.

As a responsibility to make them self-sufficient, the Commission is examining the needs on the following grounds: Financial support by way of salary; Housing; Education by way of Scholar-ships to their children; Subsidised/Fair price shop of Ration and Medical support. (INN)
