Minor tribal girl gangraped; six held

A 17-year-old tribal girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by seven youths for nine days in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district, police said today.

Six of the accused in the case were today arrested from separate places under Jashpur police station limits, Station
House Officer GS Dubey told PTI over phone.

The victim, a native of Tapkara region, was abducted on November 18 while she was heading to her aunt’s place on the
outskirts of Jashpur.

After alighting from a public transport, she was walking towards her destination when four youths on two motorbikes
interrupted her and offered her a lift, he said.

When she refused, they forcibly took her to a nearby tourist spot, Damera, where they allegedly gangraped her.

Their three other friends joined them enroute to the spot, the SHO said.

For the next nine days, the accused moved to various tourist places in the region and repeatedly sexually exploited
the girl.

On November 28, they dumped the girl near a stadium, threatening her with dire consequence if she revealed their
identity to anyone, he said.

Based on the girl’s complaint, the six accused – Rakesh Ram (19), Rajendra Kumar (19), Raki Kumar (18), Md Nazim Khan
(20), Sunil Kumar Singh (24) and Arvind Nayak (18), all natives of Jashpur – were nabbed, the SHO said.

Efforts are on to apprehend another accused, he said.

The accused have been booked under sections 376 (2G) (gangrape), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful
confinement), 363 (kidnapping) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of
Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sections of Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, he said
adding that a probe into the matter was on.
