Hyderabad, November 16: A person in charge of housekeeping at the Indo American Cancer Institute has been charged with rape by a 15-year-old girl who was working with him.
The teenager said she was raped three months ago and registered a complaint on Tuesday with the Banjara Hills police after she found she was pregnant. The police has registered a case against Srisailam, the housekeeper in-charge, for raping the minor. He is absconding and the police is looking for him.
Banjara Hills sub-inspector S. Ramesh said, “We got a complaint on Tuesday evening from a 15-year-old girl who said that her in-charge, Srisailam, 35, had raped her three months ago at his residence at Zaheera-nagar. The girl registered a complaint when she found that she was pregnant.”
The teenager has been working at the American Cancer Institute for two years. She lived on the hospital premises and her parents are labourers in East Godavari district.
Since the alleged rape took place outside the hospital, hospital authorities are not taking any responsibility and told the girl to register a police complaint.
A spokesperson for the Indo American Cancer Institute said: “The sexual assault didn’t take place in our hospital, but in a col-ony where the victim and the alleged offender were staying, at least around four months ago. However, we conducted a preliminary enquiry and advised the girl to lodge a police complaint, which she did. The man, who was our emp-loyee, was removed from service immediately after our internal enquiry. Now, it’s up to the police to investigate and take action against the offender. As far as our hospital is concerned, all our security mechanisms are in place, including CCTVs to prevent any untoward incident.”
Meanwhile, AP Balalahakkula Sangham president Achyuta Rao said, “We have looked into the matter and have found that the hospital authorities had threatened the girl not to complain against the hospital. They claim that the girl was 16 years old, but she is 13 yea-rs old. We plan to book a case against the hospital as she is a child and there are other kids working there.”
