Minor rape victim’s family wants to take her back home

New Delhi, January 12: The family members of the 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by senior inspector Arun Borude, are running from pillar to post to get a chance to meet her.

After being discharged from hospital in November last year, the girl was initially kept at the remand home in Mankhurd and later shifted to St Katherine’s Home in Andheri.
Four men, including Borude, are accused of raping her over a year. She gave birth to a premature baby girl in October last year.

The girl’s two sisters and her mother met her last when the police took her to various places to identify the spots where she had been allegedly raped.

Soon after his name surfaced during investigations as one of the rapists, Borude was on the run. Though several police teams were sent to various places, he could not be found. The police found his severely injured body from near the tracks at Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district, Gujarat, on December 29. The police said that Borude had committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train.

“I want to bring back my daughter and granddaughter home and take care of them,” the girl’s mother said. “I don’t know how she is now and whether people at the home are taking proper care of her. No one allows us to meet her.
“The police and officials at the remand home asked us to write a letter to the child welfare committee (CWC). We sent a letter, but we are still to get a reply.”

She along with a few relatives recently met the zonal deputy commissioner of police Prakash Muthyal as well. “At present, the custody of the victim is with the CWC,” Muthyal said. “We cannot do anything while she is at the remand home. Even we have to seek permission to meet her or take her out for investigation purposes. I have told the family members to take permission from the CWC.”

The girl’s sister said that they did not get any reply from the CWC. “We filed an application last month,” she said. “We have no idea how she or the baby is. We do not know much about government functioning, but it is strange that parents and relatives are not being allowed to meet her.”
