S.A. Huda, spokesperson and Director General of Police (Law & Order) has stated that normally review/planning at government and police headquarters levels are held on the occasion of festivals like Ramzan, Ganesh Nimajjanam and agitations like Rail Roko and separate State agitations and instructions are issued to the zonal police officers. But for minor issues like political leaders’ ‘Deekshas’ or taking out a rally to a particular place, there will be no planning nor instructions are given to the police officers. Such minor issues are left to the discretion of the unit officers like superintendents of police and Police Commissioners as they have been empowered, equipped and adequately briefed with clear cut directions of upholding the law of the land and are supposed to take decisions in the best interests of the public and department, keeping the Law & Order paramount.
In a statement here on Wednesday, Huda stated that in the case of Y.S.Vijayamma, MLA and honorary president of YSRCP, who had taken up ‘Chenetha Deeksha’ at Sircilla of Karimnagar district, there was no directive to the unit police officers either from the government or Police Headquarters. In all such issues, intimation of any such political activity is normally sent from the Intelligence department and the unit officers are required to take action as they deem fit. They are free to permit or ban it. In this case, the Superintendent of Police, Karimnagar acted according to his discretion. In all, some 300 police personnel were deployed for the Sircilla meeting.
In fact, when it was brought to the notice of the Police Headquarters that excess force was used on the agitators on the borders of Medak, an inquiry was ordered by the DIG of Police, Nizamabad Range, he added. (NSS)
