New Delhi: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour, a cab driver who had taken her for a drive in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar area, police said today.
The accused, identified as 40-year-old Ravi, was arrested on October 1 and a case under relevant sections of POCSO has been registered against him, a senior police officer said.
Ravi works with a cab aggregator company and stays on the ground floor of the building where the girl’s family lives.
The child was playing outside her home when the accused allegedly lured her on the pretext of taking her for a ride in his cab on September 30, he said.
The girl, a student of class V in a nearby government school, used to call him ‘uncle’ and decided to go along with him, police said.
He took the cab to a desolate spot and tried to assault the victim who raised an alarm. He allegedly also beat her up and threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to her parents or the police, said the officer.
The accused then brought her back home. Even though the girl was scared, she managed to inform her parents about the incident who then lodged a complaint with the police, he said.
She is traumatised after the incident and she and her parents are undergoing counselling sessions.
