Jhajjar (Haryana), December 20: Timely action prevented a minor girl from being married off by her family at Akheri Madanpur village in the district, police said.
Prohibition Officer Madhvi Lohchab and Station House Officer (SHO) of Salhavaas police station Somveer Singh had yesterday received a tip-off that Ranbir Singh was getting his 14-year-old daughter married to a youth of Sundana village in Rohtak district yesterday.
Singh and Lochab rushed to the village and stopped the marriage ceremony.
When the girl’s parents were asked to produce evidence to ascertain her age, they claimed of not having any documents, the SHO said.
The kin of the bride and locals, later, admitted that the girl is a minor, said Singh, adding that a case had been registered and transferred to Child Marriage Prevention Officer for further action.
