Mumbai: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 21-year-old neighbour at suburban Powai today, police said.
The incident came to light after the parents of the girl, a resident of Filter Pada, approached police to lodge a missing complaint, they said.
While police registered a case under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of the IPC, during the investigation they found that a youth staying in neighbourhood of the girl was also missing from his home.
“The girl was subsequently traced and sent to hospital for medical examination, where the sexual intercourse was confirmed,” said Senior police inspector Bhai Mahadeswar, adding, the girl and the accused were known to each other.
The youth, whose name has been withheld, has been booked for rape and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offense Act (POCSO), and efforts are on to trace him.
