Kurnool. September 20: A minor girl was gangraped and set ablaze by two men at Arundhati Nagar in Kurnool town on Monday. She is battling for life in Kurnool government hospital. First class magistrate Harita reached the hospital and took a declaration from the victim, Heena (12).
Daughter of Makbul and Bibi- residents of Maruti Nagar, Heena, works as a maid servant in the house of Sankariah, one of the accused. Sankaraiah is an employee of the zilla parishad office and his wife works in the panchayat raj department. They have two daughters studying in private schools in the town. On Monday afternoon, Sankaraiah and his friend raped Heena.
In a bid to cover up the crime, the duo planned to kill her. They doused the girl in kerosene and set her ablaze. As the girl screamed for help, neighbours rushed to her rescue and shifted her to the government hospital.
The accused accompanied the victim to the hospital and informed her parents that their daughter caught fire accidentally. But when Heena informed her parents about the rape and the attempt to murder, the accused fled the place sensing trouble.
Based on a complaint by Heena’s parents, police registered a case. A manhunt was launched to nab the accused.
