Hyderabad, January 08: The Tukaramgate cops on Sunday afternoon arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly raping a Class X girl. Following a complaint by the girl’s father, a car driver, on Saturday night, the cops took the boy into custody. Hailing from Warangal district, the boy had been working as an auto driver and his family stays at Azad Chandrasekhar Nagar. The girl’s family stays near Marredpally MRO office.
According to Tukaram-gate inspector S. Santosh Kiran, the boy used to drop the girl to school whenever she missed her bus and both became friends. They went together to bakeries, temples and parks in the last one year. The girl’s father came to know about it through one of his friends and questioned his daughter. She told him about their relationship. The girl’s father then lodged a complaint.
However, it is learnt that he first approached the boy to marry his daughter. When the boy refused to marry her, he lodged the complaint. The cops registered a case against him under Section 376 (rape) of IPC and under various provisions of SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as the girl is from the SC Community and the boy is from a BC Community.
Police said the boy would be produced at the residence of juvenile court judge on Sunday night.
Child rights organisations and cops are attributing such incidents to increased access to TVs, films and Internet besides blaming parents. “Parents should watch their children and ask for reasons if they return home late from school,” they advised.
