Abu Dhabi, April 28: An anti-human trafficking panel has been set up by the Ministry of Interior, Brig. Ahmed Mohammed Nakhaira Al Muharrami, Director of Human Rights Department at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said.

The panel will update the legislative bodies regarding human trafficking crimes at the internal and external levels. It will also coordinate with the competent authorities to launch awareness over the human trafficking crimes.

The panel will coordinate with the centres sheltering the victims to ensure they are more protected.

It will also prepare plans and follow up their implementation.

Brig. Nakhaira said the future plans would further activate work in the field of human rights through programmes, training sessions, symposiums, conferences and field visits, adding that work is underway to set up modern database on human rights issues in coordination and cooperation with the competent authorities in the UAE and abroad.

He indicated that the panel will monitor the regional and international development human rights issues to build human rights strategies.

Nakhaira commended the visit paid to the UAE by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, as part of her regional tour. He said the human rights department was tasked with many human rights assignments. —
