Khammam, January 05: Investigation into the murder of factionist Maddelachervu Suryanarayana Reddy has unearthed a surprise link between the prime suspect, Bhanu Kiran and Khammam district.
According to police, Bhanu, a trusted aide of Suri, had applied for a pistol licence from Wyra in Khammam district on September 26, 2006 and got a licence for 0.32 pistol on November 23, 2006 despite he not being a resident of Wyra.
Bhanu mentioned his address in the application for the licence as Bhanu, son of Damodhar Rao, 5TH ward, Wyra town.
According to SP Kranthirana, Bhanu’s pistol licence was cancelled and his pistol was seized on 29 July, 2009 when he was arrested under the Arms Act by the Begumpet police.
He reportedly applied for renewal of the licence in 2009. It is learnt that a minister’s son had helped Bhanu in getting the licence. Questions are being raised on the role of the police and the minister’s son in the issue.
Asked about it, the SP said they would invesgitage the issue.
